Pinot grigio’s dramatic success is due to this grape’s impressive ability to adapt to a great variety of foods. A well structured wine of brilliant straw colour, Pinot grigio features an attractive range of bouquet: from the delicate scent of acacia flowers to tomato leaf. Very easy and balanced on the palate. Producer Borgo Magredo is the largest estate in the Friuli Region. Although most of the vineyards in the Friuli Region are made up of gravely soil, the soil of Borgo’s 500 acres of vineyards is so full of pebbles it almost appears that the vines have been planted in a stream bed. The word "Grave" originates from the word for stones or pebbles. The soil is so "meager" (hence the Italian word "magredo") that the vines are cultivated on grassy land with frequent irrigation and fertilization. The location of the vineyards near the foot of the Alps creates excellent ventilation and accentuates the day - night temperatures. This temperature difference helps to develop a fresh fragrance in the wines. The Borgo Magredo estate is equipped with the most modern vinification equipment available, including two soft presses, new wood barrels for aging, and total computer-controlled temperature fermentation. The estate is a unique combination of high quality production combined with interesting volume potential Donato Lanati, one of Italy’s most important enologists, has been appointed as the director of wine operations.
